SPARK Conversations: LGBTQ and Mental Health
September 27, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
LGBTQ+ Filipinos continue to experience stigma, prejudice and discrimination in Philippine society. This stigma is manifested in actions such as: bullying, teasing and harassment of LGBT children and adolescents in families, schools and communities. LGBTQ+ Filipinos often confront social pressures to hide, suppress or even attempt to change their identities and expressions as conditions for their social acceptance and enjoyment of rights. Although many of them learn to cope with this social stigma, these experiences can cause serious psychological distress, including immediate consequences such as fear, sadness, alienation, anger and internalized stigma.” How do we offer support for our LGBTQ+ friends and family amidst societal pressures and stigma?
Join us for the third and the last part of the SPARK Conversations Mental Health Talk Series this Friday, September 27 at 1-5pm here in Commune as we discuss the LGBTQ+ and the mental health issues that they come across everyday.
